Cacao: the whoelistic adaptogen

You know how people read coffee grounds—that’s an ancient practice? I’m sure some do it with cacao too. I think that’s what I did today, even if I don’t know how to officially “read” it...

(btw...) Hello, I’m back to writing!


This morning, after finishing my cold cacao, I looked down and saw the dregs (I love preparing it cold because it really leaves a frothy layer)… and it felt like I was reading the cacao dregs—or they were reading me.


Have you ever felt something brewing inside you and suddenly, kaboom, a big clear image appears of what’s pulsating within?


Today I saw my cacao’s dregs and “read” them: I felt gratitude for the cycle that passed, inspiration, appreciation for how I’ve traveled this season that’s ending.


WAIT, wasn’t this post about cacao as an adaptogen?

Yes, yes—even more to come, I promise.


In my cacao today, I included: selenium, ashwagandha, magnesium, zinc, a touch of coffee, milk, vanilla, and a few drops of coconut oil.I love that freedom—recipes are like Legos, you can dismantle and reconfigure them based on what you need.


Why this combo?To support my immune system, balance hormones, bring mental clarity, and a gentle energy boost without overstimulating. That was my intention: gentle and conscious.


And why share this with you?Because, as I mentioned before, the real power of adaptogens lies in their ability to adapt to you—to help you restore balance.


The adaptogenic magic of cacao is double… or even triple.

Double, because it’s an intrinsically powerful and spiritual plant—especially when sourced from loving, respectful communities (like the Maya, who honored it for centuries). /

Triple, because I call it an adaptogenic vehicle: its earthy flavor, fat content, and texture make it ideal to combine with other adaptogens or supplements (maca, ashwagandha, zinc, selenium). And cacao already brings some of these minerals itself.


But PLEASE don’t turn your cacao into a mega-supplement cocktail—nothing is universally right or always necessary. REMEMBER : the key is to listen to your body and sense your energy.


and, the point is: sitting with Mama cacao invites a d a n c e o f a d a p t a t i o n :

  • Physically → giving you exactly what you need, when you need it.

  • Mentally and spiritually → adaptation through presence.
